At Hattie B. Cooper Community Center, diversity isn’t just a policy – it’s our classroom. We are a community where every child from every Boston neighborhood can feel at home.
As a NAEYC-accredited childcare development center located in the heart of Lower Roxbury, we are committed to cultivating an educational community that mirrors the rich diversity of the families we serve. We believe that an inclusive environment is a vital learning opportunity, allowing children to hear different languages, share unique perspectives, and value the traditions that make our city vibrant.
While our roots are in the historic Lower Roxbury neighborhood, we welcome families from across the Greater Boston Area, fostering a microcosm of the city where every child from 3 months to 12 years old feels a deep sense of belonging.

Our Core Pillars
- Inclusive Representation: We celebrate a diverse group of families across all racial, ethnic, national, religious, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Valuing All Families: We recognize, celebrate, and value the unique family units that compose our community, ensuring every child sees their home life reflected with respect.
- Educational Equity: Through our partnership with Boston Pre-K, we utilize the Focus Curriculum for our PreK students. This ensures high-quality, research-based education is accessible to a broad spectrum of Boston’s children.
- Staff Diversity: Our commitment to equity is reflected in our workforce; we strive for a staff that represents the lived experiences and identities of our students.
- on-Discrimination: We do not discriminate in the administration of our educational policies, admissions, or any other school-administered programs.
Community Impact
Our location in Lower Roxbury places us at a historic crossroads of culture and resilience. As a center of Black history and home to diverse Latinx, Caribbean, and Asian families, we serve as a “village” that honors these specific cultural roots. By bringing together children from across Boston, we create a learning space where diversity is not just a goal, but a daily practice that prepares the next generation for a more just and equitable future.
