Preparing Children for a Life of Learning
At The Cooper Learning Center, our prekindergarten program aims to prepare children as they transition from early childhood education to the routines and rigor of kindergarten and beyond. We have three classrooms: a three-year-old group, four-year-old group, and a mixed-age group. This allows us to meet the needs of our children and teach developmentally rather than chronologically.
Our Approach
Our classrooms balance play-based learning and structure. It is our philosophy that social-emotional development is the most important marker for a child’s long-term success. Teachers emphasize building confidence and self-regulation, helping children become both more independent and collaborative.
“Cooper Learning Center has been a wonderful experience for our son. The teachers are not only patient and kind, but genuinely invested in every child’s growth and well-being…
Most of all, Cooper has instilled in him a genuine love for books—a gift we cherish deeply. He now picks up books, often asking to be read to or flipping through pages with excitement and telling the story by looking at pictures.”
In partnership with Boston Public Schools Pre-K
We provide high-quality, tuition-free prekindergarten aligned with the City of Boston’s Focus on Pre-K standards. Our program is grounded in developmentally appropriate practice and guided by the Boston Public Schools Focus on Pre-K Curriculum and The Creative Curriculum for Preschool. Together, our teachers use these frameworks to create intentional, engaging, and responsive education for each child’s strengths, interests, and developmental needs.
Key Features
Our three-year-old son has been attending this pre-K program for about six months. After visiting the school, we felt confident in enrolling. The classrooms are well-organized, with clear learning and play areas and a bright, welcoming atmosphere.
Since starting, we have seen clear growth in his independence and daily routines, from dressing himself to following routines and trying new foods.
The introduction of science at an early age is another highlight. He shows strong interest in science activities and often brings that curiosity home by asking thoughtful questions.

A Typical Day
Exact routines vary slightly by classroom, but a typical day includes:
- 1Arrival & Breakfast
- 2Morning Meeting (building community, focusing in for the day)
- 3Small Group activities
- 4Center Times (Art, Blocks, Dramatic Play, Science, Writing & Drawing, Math and more!)
- 5Gross Motor Play (we utilize our yard and playground as often as possible)
- 6Lunch & Rest/Quiet Time
- 7Afternoon Lessons, Free Play, and Pick Up
Family Partnership
We believe families are a child’s first and most important teachers. For that reason, our Pre-K program prioritizes consistent, meaningful communication with families. Throughout the year, we hold parent-teacher conferences and provide developmental progress updates through report cards and conference forms to help families better understand their child’s growth. As children prepare for kindergarten, we work to “close the loop” by supporting families through the registration process and guiding a smooth transition to kindergarten.
